Do you love learning about snakes? Have you taken Ms. Leyla's other snake classes and thought, "I want more snakes!"? Are you intrigued by the big constrictors and the impressive strength and beauty of these animals? This is the class for you! This class is devoted entirely to one grouping of snakes and we are going to explore the world of constrictors and what makes them so special in this one-session class. We'll discuss the differences between various boids and even colubrids that use constriction, look at a global sampling of some of the most amazing constrictors (including some of the largest snakes in the world today), learn about the lesser known constrictors (like the amazing short-tailed pythons, the olive python, and more), talk about the constrictors in the pet trade, and the unfortunate situation in the everglades. We will conclude the class with a fun, picture quiz re-capping what we have learned! One of Ms. Leyla's constrictors will accompany her in teaching the class so students can see first-hand the beauty of these extraordinary creatures.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been involved with multiple species of animals my entire life...but I've always been intrigued by snakes. When I was young, I encountered a garter snake in my yard; I screamed and my dad ran to me, "killed" it, and put it in the trash. Later, I went to show the snake to my friends. I opened the trash can lid, and the snake jumped out at us to escape! Of course, I screamed again and my dad came running...but this time, he caught the little snake and chose to educate us on the little guy vs. discarding it again. My dad was an avid outdoorsman, so he took the time to educate us on the snake and why it was so important to let it live. Since then, I've loved snakes. Education turned fear into respect.
I have worked exclusively with various species of snakes for over 8 years. I teach snake conservation at a variety of elementary schools, youth groups, discovery camps, and 4-H groups to all ages. My snake ambassadors and I enjoy dispelling myths about snakes and showing students that snakes are incredibly beneficial and fascinating creatures. I have been a regular contributor to a reptile magazine and have been sourced by media for articles on reptile rescue and snakes. My exotic vet even consults me on occasion regarding Ball Python husbandry as she knows I'm a knowledgable resource. I have also worked hands-on with reptile rescue (specific to snakes). I am a member of the United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK). Additionally, as a hobbyist, I breed Ball Pythons, manage an education page on Facebook, and identify snake species when requested.
