Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Advanced Level
This ongoing class is for young readers.

Each class will contain 6 sections:
1. We will learn or review a letter digraph, diphthong, and/ or combinations.
2. We will practice segmenting and spelling words with our target sound.
3. We will skim the passage and highlight our weekly sound.
4. We will read the passage, stopping to use decoding strategies of unknown words. Each passage will be 10-15 sentences.
5. We will read the passage again for fluency. Students should be prepared to read out loud by themselves, with a partner, or trio.
6. We will answer the comprehension questions based on the passage.

I will send a weekly printable each Sunday evening with our story passage. You may print this paper so your student can work along side me. I will also be presenting the same printable using Google Slides.
In this class, we will be using proven strategies from the Science of Reading research. This means that we will be learning to decode and improve spelling based on vowels, syllables, and phonics knowledge.

I am a certified EC-6 Texas teacher, but do not have Special Education or Reading Specialist qualifications.

I have been teaching kindergarten for 5 years now. Teaching reading is a passion of mine. I've grown some pretty amazing readers in the last several years and I feel I'm qualified to help students learn to read.
