Class Experience

In this weekly group workshop learners will have the opportunity to develop their skills further with more experience peers and higher levels lessons! We will work on developing technique, studying drumming culture, and most importantly developing our ear. There is no set schedule for lessons/topics as we will adapt to the group that shows up each week. But you can be sure that each week we will take a slightly different approach to ensure we cover a wide variety of topics and cater to every student's learning style. For example, one week we may start by listening to a song and then break it down, while another week we may use sheet music for a snare solo as a starting point. I'll encourage participation, creativity and collaboration. I'll make sure that new students get up to speed quickly with an onboarding package of content and I'll send individualized homework to all students weekly. I invite learners and parents to chat with me outside of class about what they need to succeed or if they just want more to work on. Can't wait to get started with y'all!

Learning Goals

I'll send unique homework assignments each week.

Hello Outschool! My name is Daniel, and I'm a drummer in the Seattle area. I also teach and that's why I'm here! I've got a unique background... After drumming for 7+ years when I was young, I decided to go to Iowa State University to learn how to be an architect. After completing a BArch there, I practiced professionaly for 2 years. Then I pivoted back to music! In addition to 2 busy years as a drum instructor, I've also got a variety of other teaching experience and experience with kids in general. During my undergrad at Iowa State University, I was a Teacher's Assistant for a CORE Design Studio course and worked directly with first-year students throughout the entire semester working on design projects ranging from sculpture to color theory. I also have experience as head coach of the Boys' Fresh/Soph Soccer Team at Holy Family High School in the Denver area during the 2018 season.

At Outschool, I offer courses for all ages and skill levels covering drumming technique, theory, and culture, in private and group lesson formats.

What's my teaching philosophy? Help people develop opinions and empower them to take action.

Fun and personal!... I also draw a lot of experience from growing up with two younger brothers, one 8 years and one 11 years younger than me. Because of this, I was called on to be a role model and leader in the household at a young age. Might not seem "fun" on the surface but the joy that this experience has brought me is abounding.
