Each class will focus on a different reading skill, particularly those introduced and taught at the middle school level. Skills include: context clues, story elements (plot, setting, characters, conflict, theme, characterization), parts of speech, rhetorical appeals, figurative language, summarizing, genre, nonfiction text features, text structures, and more! During class, I will introduce the skill for the meeting and then a review using Google Slides. Learners will then complete practice activities with me. If there is reading involved, I will encourage learners to read aloud. This class is designed to be interactive and conversational. We will talk a lot, play some games and have fun!
Learning Goals
Students will learn skills to help them become better, more confident readers.
