Class Experience

In this single-session class, students will create at least two mini nightscape paintings as they explore using wet-on-wet watercolor painting techniques & the addition of salt for texture. A fun and satisfying little project! Although I really love taking a lot of time to explore individual techniques, this project introduces/combines a few important watercolor skills, so newer watercolor artists may leave with a few extra tricks in their toolkits.

Although this class is a little more formulaic than what I usually offer, there will be room for individual project variation, for sure! I always encourage students to take things in their own direction as much as possible, even with something like this where there's a more expected/finished outcome. What's nice about occasional one-off projects like this is they combine basic techniques for a more 'finished' painting, which can feel satisfying. But that said, make sure your young artists have lots of time to free explore on their own as well!

I'll offer clear guidance with a camera focused on my hands as well as my face to ensure students can see what I'm doing, and check for comprehension every step of the way.

Although I'm happy for students to share their art if they wish, I never insist! (It can be hard to share watercolors, though, if they're not dry!)

A few Outschool rules of note:
-I must verify learners with cameras on (and as mentioned above - I really prefer they stay on so I can interact more directly with them)
-Parents may be nearby to assist, but must not appear on camera.
-Siblings/friends may share a camera, but ALL participating students must be individually registered. If two kids attend together, parents must register each learner separately!

Please reach out with any questions.
Learning Goals
Students will explore the watercolor techniques of masking and wet-on-wet, as well as learning about the special effect you get by combining salt with watercolor.
