Learners are required to bring the textbook and workbook to class to show me that you have the materials. I cannot allow learners that do not have their materials to participate in the class. The materials are listed in the "Supply List" section. Prerequisite: Completion of Dimensions 2A and 1B, or completion of any first-grade material Learners can take the 2A and/or 2B placement test to see if a review would be beneficial: https://www.singaporemath.com/placement-tests/ This course is to prepare learners for Dimensions 3A. This is an ongoing, drop-in, come-and-go as needed, supplemental class. Learners do not need to attend each week and may attend just the weeks that they would like assistance for that chapter of homework. Please be aware that the learner will be charged on Sundays, and to unenroll before Sunday if not attending. This class is a supplement to my semester-long class. However, learners do not need to be enrolled in my semester-long multi-day class to attend this ongoing class. Any learner working through the curriculum may attend class provided they have the textbook and workbook. In this class, we will complete problems from the "Do" section in the lessons as listed below. Class and Learner Guidelines: ~Learners must bring the textbook to each class but do not need to bring the workbook or other optional materials to class. Please let your learner know before class begins if they are allowed to write directly in the textbook or not. Some people prefer to reuse the textbook. If learners will not be writing in the textbook, please ensure they are prepared with paper for class. ~We will use this whiteboard in class the majority of the time: https://whiteboard.fi/TeacherKate - you can access this any time to get yourself familiar with this feature. You can use this website to do your homework as needed as well. This website allows me to see all the learners' work. Please ensure your learner understands that the expectation of this course is that they will attempt each problem to the best of their ability. When not using whiteboard.fi, we will use the Zoom whiteboard as needed, so please help your learner understand where the annotate feature can be found. I encourage my learners to answer questions on the screen using the annotate feature and work together in class. I may also at times use my document camera. Learners may be requested to use the annotate feature at this time as well. ~Mute function - Please help your learner understand how to use the mute button. I encourage my learners to control their own mute button. They should stay on mute and unmute themselves when they would like to talk. ~Chatbox - Learners will also be encouraged to answer questions using the chatbox. Learners can type the answers into the chatbox if we are giving other learners time to think about the problems. If learners are able to spell, they may also then privately message me to let me know they are unsure of the topic. If there is a lot of background noise at the learner's location, the chatbox is a great tool. ~Class start time - I try to arrive and open class 5 minutes early. This allows learners to arrive early to check settings and chat with their friends in class before class begins. The class will begin on time. ~Camera/Video - I do not require the camera to be on the entire class time, however, I do need to see the learner at the start of each class. As the course goes on and I learn each learner's voice, verbal recognition is sufficient. However, with video off, if the learner is not replying, I do not know if they are confused or distracted. I prefer video on with all of my math courses. ~Recordings - Outschool automatically records all classes. I publish my math courses to be visible to learners so that they may review class time as needed. This allows my learners to review content as needed, without having to message me, then wait for it to be published. I do try to keep myself on "spotlight" so that learner video is not published in the recording. I cannot publish recordings that have the book shown in the camera. ~Environment - Class time is relatively relaxed. I do not require my learners to raise their hands - they may ask a question when they feel it is the appropriate time to do so. I try to keep the tone of the class light and fun. I use real-world examples, such as food and animals. Math is fun and can be funny, and I like my classes lively and interesting. I want my learners to feel comfortable asking me questions about the topic to ensure they do grasp the concepts. ~Teaching method/materials - I use manipulatives and physical objects whenever possible. I prefer to use a lot of colors to help with explanations. The majority of the class will be used with a whiteboard or with my document camera. I may also screen share websites at times. Class time: Learners should come to class prepared with their textbook and pencil. They should have paper if needed. Learners should bring their workbook or optional workbooks to class if they have any questions they would like reviewed. At times, the class can be quite fast-paced. There is a lot of material to cover. I will attach teaching videos of the material whenever possible. Learners should contact me if they have any questions about the material. After each class, I will post a summary on the classroom wall with work completed during class and homework assignments. Schedule: We will complete the "Practice" lessons from the textbook. If the "Practice" is completed, we will work on the matching "Exercise" in the workbook. Any unfinished "Practice" problems from the textbook, and matching "Exercise" from the workbook, will be assigned as optional homework. The links to each book are in the "Supply List" below. There are no grades for this course, as this is just an "as needed" ongoing class. Learners should prepare for class by reviewing the chapters before the class. While there are no assigned problems, learners would benefit from completing some problems from the textbook chapters.
