US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Hi, I’m Teacher Michele. I’m an enthusiastic, patient, special education teacher who would love to teach your child foundational reading skills based on the Common Core Standards. In this ongoing class we will learn and review letter sounds, sight words and phonemic awareness skills at a Kindergarten level. The general scope and sequence of these foundational skills used in kindergarten reading will be followed. Each week we will learn and review letter sounds, learn 1-2 basic sight words, learn 1-3 phonemic awareness skill, and learn a fun animal or dinosaur fact. Knowledge of the letter names and some sounds is beneficial, but not necessary. A multi sensory approach to learn will be used, so as to meet the learning needs of all students. Additionally, the “I do, We do, and You do” technique will be used. Each student will have individual turns to talk and share what they know. The 30 minute sessions will be divided into 4 sections, 5-6 minutes long. The class will include two sessions per week. Each class will cover the following: 1. A phonemic awareness skill 2. Letter sounds and names 3. Sight words 4. A story containing the sight words taught This ongoing class may be used as an introduction to these skills, a support or review of the skills covered in their school classes or a review of these skill not mastered last year in kindergarten. If the group is ready, I also add an introduction to short vowel word families. This is based on the mastery level of the group.
