What's included
30 live meetings
15 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, students will add 10 words per week to their sight word bank. I will incorporate, pictures, movement, sensory activities, and games to enable students to recognize and read words by sight. A large sight word bank for young readers promotes confidence and success in reading fluency. The first class of each week will be used to introduce 10 new words. The third class of each week will include a cumulative review of all the words that are taught to that point. At the end of 10 weeks, students should be able to read 100 basic sight words. Before we begin using books, we will learn to place sight words into sentences thus also learning to use context clues to identify words and word meanings. By practicing the same 10 words for 30 minutes each week, the students will more easily be able to retain the words for future use. Students will also be encouraged to practice the 10 weekly sight words on the days we do not meet by making flash cards and just quickly reading through them each day. Parents and students will develop a healthy, consistent, practice for learning words . This will build a strong foundation for reading fluency for young learners. The words will come from the Frye and Dolch lists of common sight words. Both of these lists are used in public education to monitor the acquisition of a solid sight word knowledge base for young readers. I will use these lists to insure that an acceptable sequence of work knowledge is incorporated.
