Short Story Analysis for College-Bound Students
In this ongoing class, highly motivated students will be challenged to go beyond surface-level critique and uncover deeper meaning of a wide range of short stories, from classic to contemporary. Great prep for college-level English courses.

This class is perfect for motivated learners and lovers of English and reading, particularly honors-level juniors or seniors who are looking towards higher education in the near future. The canon is important to know, and we won't shy away from that, but voices outside of the canon are equally deserving of being read (and equally rewarding to read!). This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their ability to analyze literature on a deeper level, adding complexity to their text-supported opinions while embracing gray areas and ambiguity. Students will learn to better articulate their thoughts, and gain experience with in-depth, round table discussions.
I received an M.A. in English - Literature from NAU, graduating with distinction in 2023.
Stories will be posted within the classroom; students should come to the session having read it.
Short stories will be provided.
Content warnings will be listed for each story as needed. While selections will never be excessively graphic, classic AND contemporary literature both often include depictions of drinking/smoking, references to sex or adult relationships, and/or strong language.
