In this four week class, students will craft a work of short fiction. We will use a writer's workshop format, consisting of a mini-lesson, group writing, and then individual writing. I will check in with each learner throughout the writing period to guide them in reflections that will strengthen their writing. Students will be expected to complete their writing outside of class time and must be willing to share what they've written with me. A typical class would be 10 minutes of mini-lesson, 10 minutes of group writing, 15 minutes of individual writing/conferring, and and 5 minutes to share progress/respond to each other's writing. Week one: Gather ideas, develop characters. Week two: Get your ideas on paper, write the story from within. Week three: Craft a beginning, craft an ending. Week four: Revise/edit, publishing celebration.

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I love working with young writers and teaching them how to overcome their fear of a blank page. As an elementary school teacher for over 10 years, I have a lot of experience teaching writing. I love the writer's workshop format where students are guided to creating their best work and do not rely on a teacher to tell them whether or not it is "good."
