Class Experience

"Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count[ess] Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about [her], billowing [her] cape in the darkness.

"The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited."

(Text via Wizards of the Coast)

Strahd von Zarovich is an evil-aligned vampire that has cursed the land of Barovia. Your job as adventurers will be to explore the area and find a way to defeat the crazed monster before she can harm you or anyone else. You’ll uncover her dark history, discover the tragedy that she created, and fight off her minions, monsters, and followers. You’ll save innocent people and hopefully lift the curse on the land.

This is a CLASSIC Dungeons & Dragons campaign, but with many key characters being gender-swapped. This will both address some of the problems of the original storyline as well as offer some humorous opposition to the traditional “scary vampire man and his devoted vampire-lady clan” trope.

Horror lovers will delight in this both structured and sandbox-style adventure. Gamers easily scared by dark themes and monsters will probably not enjoy this, however.

This is geared for pre-teens and teens. Younger kids may not do well with the darker themes of this campaign. Please contact ahead of time if you are considering enrolling a student outside of the listed age-range.

DND Beyond access is available to enrolled players. This will give your gamer the opportunity to create digital character sheets with most of the available sourcebook character options. They will also then have digital access to The Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes, and Volo’s Guide to Monsters for their reading or reference pleasure.

⚠️I highly recommend your gamer already be well-acquainted with D&D to participate in this particular campaign.⚠️

This means they know how to build their own official character sheet, they know how to reference rules and spells, and they know how to use their sheet and dice for in-game rolls and actions. If they need help to catch up on how the D&D works, please see my four-day course for total beginners: https://outschool.com/classes/camp-dungeons-and-dragons-a-course-for-total-beginners-yRB9Q5kO#usxznkQzdq

✔️TEAMWORK POLICY: By signing up for one of my campaigns, your student is agreeing to choose cooperation and collaboration with the other gamers. There will be absolutely no player-against-player actions in any form. We're here so everyone can have fun!

✔️CHARACTER POLICY: Official D&D character options only, please! This will make for fair and known game mechanics for everyone.

✔️ALIGNMENT POLICY: Evil-alignment characters are no longer allowed in these games, in order to make a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all players. It simply doesn't lend well to roleplaying in a team-player environment. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I will be asking your student out loud for their personal pronouns on the first day of class to help normalize this process for all students. My classes are all-inclusive and safe for LGBTQ+ students, so please understand this beforehand if that will be an issue for your family!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Games of Dungeons & Dragons include regular themes of fantasy battle. This is not described in disturbing detail and is always monitored by an adult. This particular campaign IS of the horror genre. There will be scary situations and monsters that might be disturbing to children that don't like that sort of thing. There is gothic horror content such as undead, children in danger, and pretty consistent evils around every corner. (Until they get rid of the big bad overlord that is causing all the dark drama.)
Supply List
Gamers will need:
-a completed character sheet (digital material provided)
-pencil
-paper
-polyhedral dice. Digital dice is a totally free option.

Students will also have access to DM Elisabeth's unlocked DnD Beyond campaign, sourcebooks, and digital character-building program.
 1 file available upon enrollment

Hey, Outschool Families!

I'm Beth, a multi-passionate human and homeschooling mom of four dragon children aged four, six, ten, and thirteen.

I'm a best-selling author and TTRPG writer that has worked for companies such as Dungeon in a Box, Modiphius, and D&D in a Castle. I'm also the creator of multiple websites in the D&D, Ravenloft, and homeschooling niches.

I've been passionate about learning through gaming since I was a young child and have since grown captivated by the world of Dungeons & Dragons. My family and I love mythology and story, so D&D lends very well to our passions.

I've grown to believe, "Families that game together stay together!"

This is because Dungeons & Dragons has added a whole new level of bonding between myself, my partner, and our children. The amount of time we spend around the table laughing, calculating, and reminiscing will make a positive lifelong impact.

As a visual learner, I try my best to be a very visual educator as well. In the last couple of years, I've discovered that one of my daughters has dyslexia. Through trial, error, tears, and victories, I have also learned how to meet her needs as a visual and hands-on learner with reading struggles.

This is something I carry over into my educational techniques through topics such as D&D because I want the game to be accessible!

I will be adding new class sections where I find interest from families.

Feel free to request time frames that you need, and I'll do my best to accommodate! I offer courses for new D&D players, advancing D&D players, budding dungeon masters, and real-play campaign sessions as well!

If you "like" any of my courses, you'll receive updates if I post new sections. If the courses you want or need are booked, reach out, and let's chat!

CLASS POLICIES (Live Courses)
1. It is Outschool policy for me to see your student's face, at least briefly, at the beginning of class to identify that they are, in fact, a student. It's a safety thing, and I appreciate your cooperation. If I cannot verify your student, they'll be placed back into the waiting room. Again, this is Outschool policy and is very important!

2. That said, I will not require your student to stay on video during the entire class if they are not comfortable with that. While it does increase engagement and socialization for the students to see each other's faces, I do understand that there are special circumstances and that children have individual needs. As long as identity is verified, your student can choose to go with or without a camera.

3. A working microphone is required, and a good-quality microphone is highly recommended!

4. My classes will always be inclusive and safe. There will be absolutely no racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or other bigotry allowed. If there is a genuine misunderstanding in this arena, there will be a gentle but stern one-time warning before removal. Teachable moments help us all grow and learn and do better!

5. If a class has fewer than the minimum number of students required to run the course, I will very likely cancel the course, but I will keep in touch with families about this.

6. If no students, or not enough students, enter the classroom within ten minutes of the class start time, I will end the session.

7. If you have to miss a session in a single, multi-day, or ongoing series, there will be a recording to watch so your student may stay caught up! In some cases, rescheduling may be possible (for example, this would be easy with a single-session course).

8. If student activity becomes disruptive during class, such as abusing the chat or being generally rude and/or disruptive, they will be asked once to stop the behavior. If it continues, they'll be moved back to the waiting room and may have to finish the class via the recording afterward. We all have to work together to make everyone feel focused and supported!
