***PLEASE REVIEW THE REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST FOR THIS CLASS!*** *PLEASE NOTE - this class meets once a day for a week (5 consecutive days). For the five week multi-day course, please visit https://outschool.com/classes/sfx-special-effects-makeup-camp-4Ce2OLFq?usid=3ZJxhrM9&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link ------- This camp will cover 5 special effects makeup techniques, but students are welcome and encouraged to experiment with their kits in between! Each day's class will consist of a brief introductory lecture/discussion, a hands on lesson, and time to experiment under my direction. At the end of the course, students will have the materials and knowledge needed to create many of the coolest makeup effects around! Day 1: The Basics Students will be introduced to each item in their makeup kit, learning the function and application techniques behind each. We'll study inspirational makeup designs from TV and movies and discuss the secrets to mirroring each look, starting with planning out designs on paper templates. Class will also include a quick lesson on creating a fresh cut! Students will then be given time to experiment with their new tools, and we'll end class with instructions on how to keep our brushes and applicators clean between uses. Day 2: Old Age A perfect place to start, old age makeup techniques are key to understanding one's facial shape and features. Moving step by step, we'll apply foundation, shadows, highlights, white powder, and details, using the power of makeup to age a few decades. Day 3: Bruises & Black Eyes In this lesson students will focus on color and blending to create realistic bruises and black eyes. We'll study different types of bruising, focusing on the differences in colors and textures. From faded old bruises to shiny new ones, we'll try them all. Day 4: Blood & Gore No special effects makeup course would be complete without some blood! For this lesson, students will learn the techniques used to create cuts, scrapes, punctures, and open wounds. The magic of liquid latex and a dab of fake blood allows faux wounds to come alive - your student will learn the basics needed to create any bloody creation. Day 5: Frostbite Using all of the techniques covered in the course, students will experiment with turning their faces into frost bitten messes. From blotchy cheeks to runny noses, cracking lips to frosty lashes, students will love using their face and arms as a canvas for this last project. This class is inclusive of all learners and makeup instruction will be considerate of all genders and skin tones. Enrollment in this course means Halloween is now all year round!

Parental Guidance
Please be warned that some images and projects may be unsettling to some. I do show examples of real bruises, but all of the images used involving blood are of fake (make up) injuries only. I am always sure to warn students that these images are coming, just in case anyone wants the chance to look away! Be warned: if real blood makes your student queasy, fake blood might, too!
We will do a safety test before using any materials for the first time, but as with any makeup product, please be conscious of possible allergy issues. Some latex techniques also require the use of a sharp blade or cutting tool (I recommend nail scissors).
Supply List
For each lesson, a makeup guide and template will be provided as a PDF. Students can choose how to work on their templates: either print one out per class to draw on or use an app to design on the computer. PLEASE NOTE: to participate in this class, students must purchase the necessary makeup supplies. My personal suggestion is the BEN NYE THEATRICAL CREME KIT This kit has everything you need for class, and will leave plenty leftover for fun! The kit: https://www.frendsbeauty.com/ben-nye-theatrical-creme-kit.html **Prices may vary depending on where you live; I suggest shopping around online for the best price!** If looking to purchase items separately, your student will need the following: (Double check your creams match your student's skin tone!) -Foundation cream -Highlight Cream -Shadow Cream -Color Cream Wheel (reds, purple, yellow, black) -Liquid Latex -Fake Blood -Brushes (thin) -Sponge Applicators -Stipple Sponges Other items to have on hand: -Scissors -Toilet paper -Makeup wipes / soap -Paper towel or old towel For questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Teacher expertise and credentials
A few years ago my love of theatre collided with my love for teaching, and I had the pleasure of running a few stage makeup courses for middle and high school students. With years of experience practicing the art of stage makeup, I'm so excited to now be able to offer this course online!
