Beginner Hand Sewing Class - Self Paced Please Note: This class is a flexible class and schedule. Lesson videos will be shared weekly in the Outschool classroom. This class does not meet in a live setting. This particular class is for hand sewing, there will not be sewing machine techniques or lessons in this course. This is a beginner Hand Sewing class. In this 5 week flexible class learners will learn all they need to know to begin hand sewing. We start at the very beginning and learn how to make thread a needle, knot the end, use a running stitch, whip stitch and simple embroidery. This class is designed to match each individual level, and learning pace. A flexible class allows learners to pause, and repeat steps as many times as they require to master the beginning steps of sewing. The Outschool Classroom will welcome learners to share their sewing questions, frustrations and triumphs. Sewing is such an incredible life skill, fostering not only creativity but resourcefulness and mindfulness. Each video we will build on sewing skills. We will familiarize ourselves with sewing stitches, patterns, terminology and advance our own personal hand sewing level. This 5 week class will build, and each learner will be able to follow along to complete three projects. This class welcomes beginner sewing aged 8 - 15. Materials **Please note that each class will require the same materials. Large Eye Sewing needle ( a sewing needle that has a large opening for the thread) Felt or fabric (Felt will work best, but as creatives we can use anything on hand and make it work --variety of colors and sizes welcome) 1 -5 sheets of felt (8 x 10 inches) or a yard of cotton fabric Thread -- if using a large eye needle embroidery floss works, but any thread is fine in any color Scissors ( the sharper the better especially when using felt) Stuffing (this can be anything from poly-fil, cotton balls, material scraps or yarn scraps) Sewing pins or clips Paper and pencil (one sheet of 8 X 11 per class) Ruler Structure: Each week we will explore beginner hand sewing skills and techniques through practice. Projects in this course include, bookmarks, mini pillows/pin cushions, mini plush squishmallows, felt food, and 3D Chickens. Teaching Style: I teach in a step by step teaching style with the initial introduction of our projects. I like to get to know each learner on an individual basis and help them in their own creative journey. All learners will have different areas of interest, different skill levels and different work ethics -- some learners prefer freedom to explore whereas others prefer guidance throughout. Interaction: All learners will be invited to share projects, thoughts, ideas and are welcome to share tips and tricks. Required experience: Beginner class for learners who really want to learn how to crochet.
