In this class, there are three main components of learning: cognitive, reflective, and application. First, students work through concepts and current brain science about high sensitivity. This is shared through powerpoint during the class. Second, students explore their own experience of high sensitivity and beliefs about it. This happens through a group writing component of the class, using writing prompts. This is followed by group reflection about the writing. Third, students learn about and develop personal strategies for self-care and self-advocacy. Students are asked to develop a plan for themselves, which is reviewed in the final class. This class is designed to be participatory and engaging in a structured way that will support the student's own meaning making about sensitivity combined with latest science. A core theme is to move from feeling high sensitivity as a burden and "different", towards feeling more able to address it effectively in the moment or prepare, and to also connecting to the gift of high sensitivity in a personally meaningful way. Anyone is welcome to join. If you aren't sure if you are highly sensitive, this is a helpful test: https://hsperson.com/test/highly-sensitive-test/

Teacher expertise and credentials
To this course, I am bringing my background in psychology as I have a Masters in Integral Psychology, and my background in adult learning as a facilitator and curriculum developer in various work environments (non-profit, educational) for 20 years. I also bring training in facilitating writing groups through the Amherst Method, and am a published writer.
Personally, I have identified my preschooler as being highly sensitive and also myself, and which has created an additional motivation to learn about it and develop strategies that work.
