This class is for beginner ukulele students who have already participated in my Level 1 - 3 classes OR for beginner students who already know the basics of how to hold the ukulele, the string names, the parts of the ukulele and how to play the chords C and F with confidence. Students will continue practicing chords (C, G, Am and F) and we will learn a variety of short songs that use these chords to build confidence and strength, rhythmic flow (groove) and stamina. Students will continue practicing beginner strumming patterns learned in Levels 1, 2 and 3. Students will learn a new strumming pattern (down down up up down up). Students will learn new chords (A, A7, Dm) New songs in this class include: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I'm Yours and Don't Worry, Be Happy. Students will review songs learned in the previous levels as well as apply new techniques and strumming patterns into these songs. (Row Row Row Your Boat, Mary Had a Little Lamb, This Little Light of Mine, You Are My Sunshine, Itsy Bitsy Spider). Students will learn how to read chord diagrams Students will begin learning how to read chord and lyric charts Students will practice how to switch from one chord to another. Students will be encouraged to develop excellent technical skills (wrist position, holding the ukulele properly, rounded fingers on the fretboard, strumming arm technique) Students will be encouraged (but not required) to perform in the 5th and 9th classes. In the semi-private setting, students receive more one-on-one advice and instruction which ensures progress. Level 4 - Lessons 1 - 4 All classes begin with a left hand warmup and a strumming warmup. Students will continue building strength in the left-hand fingers. They will review the chords already learned in Levels 1, 2 and 3 (C, Am, F, G). Students will learn a new chord (Dm). Students will learn a new strumming pattern called the island strum (down down up up down up). Students will practice chord drills which helps develop finger strength and the speed to change from one chord to another. Students will learn to read chord diagrams. They will learn 2 new songs: 1) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - students will learn to pluck the melody using single notes. 2) I'm Yours - students will learn to count the rhythm out loud and strum the chords. Level 5 - Lessons 5 - 9 All classes begin with warmups and exercises. We will continue practicing chords (C, Am, F, G, and Dm) and put them into songs. Students will continue practicing all the skills learned in Level 4 (reading chord diagrams, the island strum, chord drills and counting rhythms out loud). Students will review songs from Levels 4 (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and I'm Yours). Students will learn new songs (Don't Worry Be Happy and Happy Birthday). Students should arrive to class with their ukulele's in tune and ready to begin. At this level, students should practice 5 - 10 minutes daily in order to maintain everything they have learned so far and to continue building on the new skills learned in class. Slideshows will become available to the students after class to use for practicing at home. Parents - I recommend you sit next to your child (off-camera) and assist them with posture and finger placement. Please make sure to help your child tune their ukulele before each class. There are many great tuning apps available. My favorite tuning app is called GuitarTuna. You can download it and then set it to Soprano Ukulele. If you need assistance, please let me know and I would be happy to meet before class to assist with tuning. I recommend that students sit on a chair for the lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Siobhan! A versatile and passionate human interested in continuing to learn and grow throughout life's journey. I spent nine years living in Thailand working as a professional musician and private music teacher. For five of those years, I ran my own business, a music school, where I gained valuable experience and a versatile skill set. Just before the pandemic, I was traveling and developing new skills including cooking gourmet vegetarian food, managing a kitchen, managing social media pages, video editing as well as completing my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course. During the pandemic, I began creating music classes that are specifically designed to be delivered online. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, travel, and practicing music.
