Welcome to an enriching 7th-grade reading and writing class where students will master all of the core skills from a typical semester. In the first class, we will work on reading comprehension with a short story. Then in the next class, we will write an essay based on what we read the previous week. The class will follow this format with a total of 2 fiction texts, 2 informational texts, and 4 essays. Similar to a book report, we will write a short story report on "Examination Day." Students will use a graphic organizer to write this essay focused on the author's purpose.

Amazing Dino Discoveries
We will read and discuss the informational article "Amazing Dino Discoveries" while practicing using context clues to figure out the meaning of new words.

Expository Essay
Students will learn how to prewrite and draft an expository research essay using an approved article on any dinosaur of their choice.
