The weekly stories are apart of the Reading Street curriculum. A few stories are historical fictions which mean the author took a snippet of history and put it into a made up story. These stories lead to conversation to learn what the facts are and how to pick them out.
You can find the facts from Lewis and Clark and Me at kids.nationalgeographic.com and history.com which is based on the expedition of Lewis and Clark, On the Banks of Plum Creek at kids.kiddle.co which is based on the author's childhood, and Coyote School News at joansandin.com which is about Monchi's own story and even shared real pictures of their school newspaper.
