Week 1Lesson 1Introductions, Calendar, Weather, Numbers and ColorsIn this class, students will learn how to say their name, where they are from, how they are feeling, birthday, age, favorite color and will learn numbers 0-31. Optional number find game AND sorry game board is provided to reinforce colors and numbers at home. There are also practice activities and quizlet flashcards that go along with the lesson.Week 2Lesson 2Introduction to Spanish speaking countries and capitals, colors, bigger numbersIn this lesson, students will learn numbers 30-100, how to tell time, learn Spanish speaking countries, capitals and locations and will listen to a Spanish story to reinforce colors and the structures tiene and es. There is a fun numbers guessing game included to reinforce numbers. There are follow up reading comprehension activities for the story.Week 3Lesson 3Alphabet and Body PartsIn this lesson, students will learn how to pronounce the letters of the Spanish alphabet, spell words using the alphabet. Students will listen to a story about Mr. Potato head. Students will listen and draw their own potato head, guess which potato is being described and find the differences activity. Students are provided with practice activities about the class story.Week 4Lesson 4Body Parts, Descriptive Adjectives, Subject Pronouns, Monsters StoryIn the lesson, students will learn more body parts and listen to a story about monsters. There is a guess the monster game and a monster sorry board game. Subject pronouns and the conjugation of Ser is introduced.Week 5Lesson 5Edi The Elephant (Edi El Elefante) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will start to read their first novel called Edi El Elefante. We will read chapters 1-2 and work on reading comprehension questions from the chapters. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb poder and practice creating sentences. There is an optional tic tac toe game provided to practice speaking about the pictures at home.Week 6Lesson 6Edi The Elephant (Edi El Elefante) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will read chapters 3-4 of the class novel and work on comprehension questions. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb Tener and practice creating sentences. There is an optional Snakes and Ladders game to be played at home to reinforce speaking and reading comprehension questions.Week 7Lesson 7Edi The Elephant (Edi El Elefante) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will read chapters 5-6 of the class novel and work on comprehension questions. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb Querer. There is a fun sorry and Pictionary game to help reinforce vocabulary and structures from the bookWeek 8Lesson 8Edi The Elephant (Edi El Elefante) Class NovelIn the lesson, students will read chapters 7-8 of the class novel and work on comprehension questions. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb Decir. There is a fun DOTS game to play to review the story line of the novel. Optional writing retell of book can be submitted for feedback of writing proficiency.Week 9Lesson 9Capibara With Boots (Capibara Con Botas) Class NovelIn the lesson, students will learn about the Amazon forest and different animal habitats. Students will read chapters 1-2 of the class novel and work on comprehension activities. The verb Gustar is introduced in this lesson. There is a translation tic tac toe game to play to practice vocabulary.Week 10Lesson 10Capibara With Boots (Capibara Con Botas) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will read chapters 3-6 of class novel and work on reading comprehension activities. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb IR. Students will practice speaking with speaking prompts. There is a Pictionary game included for a fun wrap of of the chapters.Week 11Lesson 11Capibara With Boots (Capibara Con Botas) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will read chapters 7-10 of the class novel and work on reading comprehension activities. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb Ver in the present tense. Students will practice responding orally to questions in Spanish. Students will research the Galapagos islands. There is a fun Snakes and Ladders game to reinforce the chapters comprehension questions.Week 12Lesson 12Capibara With Boots (Capibara Con Botas) Class NovelIn this lesson, students will read chapters 11-14 of the class novel and work on comprehension questions. Students will learn how to conjugate the verb "Dar" in the present tense. There is a characters board game to practice speaking and a DOTS game to practice answering questions about the book. The end of the novel assessment is a writing retell of the book story line.
This class is taught in Spanish.
There will be a combination of videos, comprehension activities and games in the class. We will learn new vocabulary in the context of the chapter for each lesson. Throughout this course, Students will be practicing the 4 main parts of learning Spanish through reading, listening, speaking & writing through various activities. Activities may include: written or spoken responses in the form of practicing reading/listening comprehension and games to practice the plot of the story. Response activities are centered around the novel.
I have been a certified Spanish teacher for the past 25 years. I have a masters in education. I lived and studied in Spain for several years so I have a true Spanish accent (castellano). I have attended CI (comprehensible Input) conferences and implement the CI teaching strategy into my lessons.
Homework Offered
Homework will consist of watching the weekly video lesson and completing practice activities. Practice activities will be completed individually and may take up to 10 minutes each week. Learners will be encouraged to respond to questions in Spanish (written or spoken) play games and practice quizlet flashcards.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
