Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to Sharks; Great White SharkStudents will learn the prehistory of sharks, Introduction to scientific illustration, learn facts about and how to draw Great White Shark. Short, fun research assignment will be given at the end of class, to be completed for Friday's class.Week 2Lesson 2Bull SharksStudents will learn 1-2 general facts about sharks, review/questions about Great White Shark, learn facts about and how to draw Bull Sharks. Research status check-in: Has a shark or shark-related topic been selected? What are you going to research? What do you have done so far?Week 3Lesson 3Tiger SharksStudents will learn 1-2 general facts about sharks, review/questions about Bull Sharks, learn facts about and how to draw Tiger Sharks. Research status check-in: how is your research and drawing coming? Questions?Week 4Lesson 4Hammerhead SharksStudents will learn 1-2 general facts about sharks, review/questions about Tiger Sharks, learn facts about and how to draw Hammerhead Shark. I love to draw animals, and I have developed ways to break down the steps to teach kids how to draw animals. I also happen to be married to a "Sharkcyclopedia!" My husband never misses Shark Week, and is incredibly knowledgeable about these amazing predators. Scientific Illustration is the perfect bridge between art and science!
Homework Offered
Because this class is not live, learning will be asynchronous. All drawings will be due the Monday of the following week. Students will upload their own art the following Monday of each week and provide positive feedback on classmates' drawings. Along with the weekly drawings, ideas for an independent project will be introduced during the first class. This is intended to be fun and not take a lot of time. It will be due during the last week of class.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Paper (blank newsprint or printer paper for practicing, and good drawing paper for final illustrations) Pencils, eraser, sharpener Colored pencils, watercolor paint if desired (these are optional) laptop for research; printer is optional Handouts might be provided at different points during class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
