Movies are full of iconic characters. Han Solo. Dory. Captain Jack Sparrow. In this course, we'll explore how you can draw on real life to create characters who are entirely unique, but who come alive on the page and can translate to the screen like real people with recognizable emotions and motivations. We'll use examples from movies you know and love and learn how some of the best movie characters came to be. Perfect for aspiring writers, screenwriters, and filmmakers, and for movie lovers! This is an interactive class, where students will share their ideas and engage in active discussion with each other as they develop their characters, led by the instructor. Students don't need any prior knowledge of screenwriting. Class Structure: - Welcome & Introductions - Discussion: What makes a good character? Internal & external characteristics - Exercise: Character mapping - Overview of Actions & Objectives - Exercise: Write a short scene - Sharing & Questions *This class is part of the Screenwriting Fundamentals Series.
