Scratch Programming for Newbs (FLEX)

In this 4-week newbie course, students will dip their toes into Scratch programming. They will become familiar with Scratch coding to create animations and interactive stories all while activating their logical and creative thinking skills.

Class Experience

By the end of this course, the student should have a good grasp of programming concepts and how to use them to design and create projects.

They will...
     • Learn programming vocabulary
     • Learn how to use code blocks
     • Learn about sprites, movement, communication and effects
     • Create interactive stories and animations
There may be optional homework if there are extensions or challenges to the current project or if the student wants to add on to their projects.
 1 file available upon enrollment
An internet connection and laptop or desktop computer are required to complete the projects. Students will be given a link at the beginning of the first class to walk through setting up their free Scratch account. As you walk through the setup, if the student is not familiar with how to navigate around a browser such as Chrome or Internet Explorer, it is suggested that a parent assist if needed.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and no time outside of class.
An internet connection and laptop or desktop computer are required to complete the projects. Students will be given instructions on how to set up their free Scratch account in the sign up document. This document is listed in the "Welcome" post. Please walk through the setup with your child to help them get their accounts set up before the first class.
