Class Experience

Science Trivia Show is an interactive, game show all about science! When learners attend a Science Trivia Show, they become the players and compete against each other by doing a series of 10 tasks. A variety of different science topics can be covered in each class. Each class will be a mixed bag of earth science (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, geosphere), zoology (animals), botany (plants), astronomy (space), chemistry, human anatomy, and geography.

The aim of Science Trivia Show is to keep learners engaged and actively participating in some form throughout the entire 40-minute class. During 25% of the class, learners are unmuted and sharing their thoughts/opinions. During the other 75% of the class, learners are answering questions and completing tasks on an online platform called Nearpod (join.nearpod.com).

There are a total of 20 different versions of the Science Trivia Show. The same version is offered at various times and days throughout the week to accommodate both the teacher's and potential learners' availabilities. Each week offers a different version of the game show with completely different questions from that of the previous week. After 20 weeks, once all 20 versions have been exhausted, Science Trivia Show will begin again from version 1. Learners are welcome to start at any point within the 20-week series, with any version.

Per Outschool policy, there are no refunds for missed classes. For more information please see: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-refund-policies-and-happiness-guarantee

Parental Guidance
Nearpod is an interactive classroom tool. Nearpod is an Outschool-approved third-party tool. How To Use Nearpod for Class: A join code will be shown/sent to learners at the beginning of class. Learners will use the provided URL (join.nearpod.com) to open Nearpod on a second device, such as a tablet, second computer, or phone. Learners will need to enter the code when prompted. Additionally, learners can open a second window and "split-screen" to view both Zoom and Nearpod simultaneously. Whichever method that is most accessible to the learner is preferred. Some parental assistance may be required to prepare learners to use Nearpod for class.
Supply List
A second device is recommended but not necessary if learner knows how to "split-screen".

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, and welcome to my Outschool classroom! My name is Christine Flores (Ms. Flores). I have been a teacher in some capacity for over 10 years! I started out as a tutor, then quickly moved through different educator roles, such as a camp counselor, youth ministry coordinator, and eventually certificated science teacher, which is what I am now.

My educational background includes:
-Bachelor's degree in Psychology, minor in Chemistry
-Single subject teaching credential in Foundational Science and Chemistry
-Graduate Certificate from UCLA in Environmental Studies
-M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership

I have taught science to learners as young as 4 and as old as 18! My favorite grades to teach are upper elementary through middle school, as is reflected in my different class offerings.

My favorite science topics to teach include:
-Chemistry
-Human anatomy/physiology
-Plant science/botany
-Earth/environmental science
-Psychology

In all of my classes, learners will find themselves engaged in an interactive science lesson on one of the topics listed above. Nearly all lessons incorporate the online learning platform Nearpod, so it is encouraged that your learner comes to class equipped with a second device or split-screen knowledge in order to follow along on both Zoom and in Nearpod. Learning science is like learning a different language, so I employ multiple different strategies within Nearpod to connect learners to the content. Science lessons call for active participation through Nearpod during the entire 40-minute class.

I believe that science is naturally fun and exciting, and my teaching style is centered around this belief. I work to connect learners to science by making my lessons engaging and interactive. Science is at-work everywhere around us, and it is my goal to help learners see the science in their everyday lives.

When I’m not teaching online on Outschool, I am teaching outside in nature! While I really enjoy teaching, I also enjoy creating journals for kids on Amazon, playing with my cat, and exploring the San Francisco Bay with my friends. I hope to get to know your learner and what they enjoy too!

Thank you for reading my bio. I look forward to meeting your learner in one of my classes!
