Class Experience

In this one time class we become flower designers!

What is the role of a flower? What are the parts of a flower? Why is pollination important? When do flowers come up in the springtime? Which flowers are first to bloom? What adaptations do flowers have to attract pollinators? Who are the earliest pollinators? What kind of flower would you design for early spring?

Through pictures, drawing, and hands-on learning we will take a deep dive into flower science! We will learn about the parts of a flower through dissecting a live flower in class, we will observe and examine ephemeral spring flowers and their early season pollinators, and implement all this new knowledge through drawing in which we design an ephemeral flower.

Learners are encouraged to ask and answer questions, share stories, and have fun with this class! No prior experience or knowledge is required.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Professionally I have accumulated over 3 years of experience working as a Teacher/Naturalist at two different outdoor learning centers. In both roles I taught environmental education programs as school field trips, scout programs, birthday parties, one-off programs, multi-week series, summer camps, and more. I also had the opportunity to create my own curriculum for after school and weekend programming and offered a variety of course options. I have always enjoyed empowering young people to find a way to love learning, and I hope to use this collection of experience to share knowledge of nature and inspire learners to explore outdoors through our classes together.
