Science Experiments for Kids
In this 2 week course, students will meet for 25 minutes each session to conduct a simple science experiment using items from around their house.
Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
This class will cover learning about absorbency, solvency, experiments, reactions and so much more. Did you know you can learn a lot about science and scientific principles using craft items and food items that you probably have at home right now? Hypothesizing, measuring, recording results and discussing are part of this process too!
10 lessons//2 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Skittles and MilkMy lesson is about conducting an experiment using skittles and milk to learn about liquids and solids.Lesson 2SlimeMy lesson is about the science of slime and how we use science to make slime.Lesson 3Bouncing BubblesMy lesson is about creating bouncing bubbles that you can hold in your hand.Lesson 4Lemons and ScienceMy lesson is about using lemons and science to paint on a canvas!Lesson 5Solar OvenMy lesson is about how to build a solar oven to make smores in your backyard!Week 2Lesson 6Fireworks in a JarMy lesson is about learning about the reactions of mixing different liquids and colors together.Lesson 7Grow a Polar BearMy lesson is about how adding different liquids to gummy bears will change the gummy bear instantly.Lesson 8Cork Sail BoatsMy lesson is about how to engineer a sail boat that can float on water.Lesson 9Marshmallow CatapultMy lesson is about propulsion while students engineer a marshmallow launching device.Lesson 10Tornado in a JarMy lesson is about using a vortex motion created by your hands to create a tornado in a jar.
- Students will improve their knowledge of the scientific process while creating experiments using common household items. The children that participate in this class will learn about solvency, absorbency, solar heat and other scientific concepts. Students will touch on these topics and they will have a basis to start with as their next school year progresses.
Assessment
Frequency: Available upon requestDetails: Informal assessments will be conducted as students will be required to form a hypothesis and draw a conclusion.
Each class will require items on hand.
