30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will engage in a hands on physics experiment using items such as milk, soap, and food coloring/pepper. (Please see material list below.) Class will begin with an engaging question to connect the students. Next, students will discuss and learn about water bugs. Then, a brief physics lesson about the science of surface tension will be taught. Students will perform the experiment using pepper and or food coloring to discover why water bugs stay on top of water. Finally, students will experiment with different materials and or colors using the physics of surface tension.

Supply List
* A small, shallow dish or plate and bowl * Milk (2% or whole milk are best, but skim milk works too) * Dish soap or Hand Soap * Cotton swabs like Q-tips or toothpick or another small item to dip in milk * Food coloring (or pepper can be used) * Pepper and other items like pepper the student wants to experiment with * Water
