Learners will hear and discuss some spooky songs from the classical music canon. We will talk about why they sound scary, who wrote them and why, and leave time to discuss opinions about what he hear! Musical works include: Symphonie fantastique - Hector Berlioz The Rite of Spring - Igor Stravinsky Night on Bald Mountain - Modest Mussorgsky Toccata and Fugue in D Minor - Johann Sebastian Bach The class structure will involve alternations of listening, lecture, and free discussion. No musical knowledge is necessary! I strive to make learners of all experiences and education levels feel welcome.
Learning Goals
Students will learn of 4 classical music pieces.
Students will understand the contexts and qualities that make them "scary."
Students will comprehend these aspects enough to engage in free discussion.
