30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This class is designed for learners who may be interested in taking cello lessons, or who are simply curious about a new instrument. You will not need a cello of your own yet, and no musical experience is necessary! As a member of the string family, the cello is similar to other instruments such as the violin, viola, and bass, but it has some special features that make it unique. This will be primarily a face-to-face discussion and demonstration of the instrument. There will be interactive questions to help learners discover what types of sound a cello can make, and plenty of time for learners to ask their own questions about the cello. At the end, you will get to hear a live performance of a cello demonstrating all the things we talked about, and each learner may request a favorite song in advance that they would like to hear.
Learning Goals
Learners will experience the cello sound, understand how it works as a musical instrument, and potentially be inspired to learn to play it! By the end of the session, you will know:
- Main parts of the cello and what they are made of
- How a cello produces sounds to make beautiful music
- What kinds of music the cello can play

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I began playing the cello when I was 5 years old, and the joy of learning music has stayed with me my whole life. Today, I love passing that on to my students in turn. I aim to cultivate a lifelong enjoyment of music by helping learners of all ages unlock their own creativity and exploration.
I teach private lessons and group classes in cello, violin, and piano, as well as kindergarten music, music theory, music history, and music appreciation. While my specialty is in classical music, I can guide budding musicians through any musical style that speaks to them. Whatever your goals and interests are, I can help you get there!
