Rootin' Tootin' Pre-Flute'N Summer Camp (Level 1)

In this 2-week camp, students will explore learning music by playing the Nuvo Toot, a pre-flute instrument that is easy and fun to play, and comes in several fun colors. This instrument is small enough for little hands!

What's included

8 live meetings
4 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. This camp-style version of the regular weekly class will need reinforcement of the songs after class. I can anticipate 10-15 minutes of toot practice time per day after class.

Class Experience

Beginner Level
Learners will use the Nuvo Toot to learn about rhythm, pitch, and manipulating a musical instrument. This is a great opportunity to begin instrumental skills and to "test the waters" to determine child readiness for more in-depth musical learning as well as allowing parents to observe their long-term interest.

This learning experience is play-based. We play our Nuvo Toot a lot, but we also take brain breaks with movement activities that support musical learning and help young children stay engaged.

Parents are a vital part of this class. Parents are expected to attend to help with the physical manipulation of the Nuvo Toot (helping children place their fingers) and are expected to assist them in practicing for 5+ minutes per day. Parents do not need any musical background.

I am responsive to the class needs, so although I have a planned curriculum, if I sense that students are ready to move faster or need more time to review, I adapt as we go.

Lesson 1:
We will learn how to count whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes.

Other Details

Supply List
-Nuvo Toot (available on Amazon), any color of the child's choice
-Desktop or laptop computer-- tablets and mobile devices lack certain Zoom audio settings. I find that I cannot hear students AT ALL on mobile devices because the Zoom settings filter the sound entirely.
-1/4 inch round stickers in the colors pink, blue, and green. If your child is opposed to pink, you may substitute a purple color. These will go on the Nuvo toot and your child's fingernails, so be sure they are small!
-Materials are provided and may be printed for ease, although it is not 100% necessary to print
 1 file available upon enrollment
