4 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Due to the increasing challenge of the songs on a shorter term basis, students may expect to practice 15 minutes per day.Class Experience
Learners will use the Nuvo Toot to learn about rhythm, pitch, and manipulating a musical instrument. This is a great opportunity to begin instrumental skills and to "test the waters" to determine child readiness for more in-depth musical learning as well as allowing parents to observe their long-term interest. This learning experience is play-based. We play our Nuvo Toot a lot, but we also take brain breaks with movement activities that support musical learning and help young children stay engaged. Parents are a vital part of this class. Parents are expected to attend to help with the physical manipulation of the Nuvo Toot (helping children place their fingers) and are expected to assist them in practicing for 10+ minutes per day. Parents do not need any musical background. I am responsive to the class needs, so although I have a planned curriculum, if I sense that students are ready to move faster or need more time to review, I adapt as we go. Lesson 1: We will review Old McDonald Boogie and rhythms. Lesson 2: We learn a new note: Low C Songs include: Bubble Chops, Au Clair De la Lune (low version). Lesson 3: Songs include: Suo Gan (Low version), Morning. Lesson 4 Songs include: Up and Down, Country Waltz. Lesson 5 As songs become more complex, we will look at one at a time: Sparky. Lesson 6 This week's song is The Wheels on the Bus. Lesson 7 Our final song is Can-Can! Lesson 8 Pre-Flute Wrap-Up

Teacher expertise and credentials
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hi! 👋 I'm a national prize-winning flutist and certified music educator.
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education and Flute Performance (dual major), a Master of Music Degree in Music History, and a Master of Science Degree in Education.
I taught online courses for 4.5 years through an online public charter school and worked for a year as an instructional technologist-- teaching other teachers how to use technology, including Zoom! Needless to say, the online world is familiar to me. I now perform as a flutist and teach music full time as a freelance artist and educator in Lancaster, PA. I've taught flute lessons for 10 years and counting!
There is something about sharing music with kids that is like bringing them into Narnia, opening up a whole new world of thought, expression, and emotion. It gives organization to the mind and freedom to the heart. "Even I never dreamed of Magic like this!" 🪄
