Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
In a one to one setting, I will guide your student through reading strategies that will improve their decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. I will present downloads for use in real time tutoring as well as practice for homework, allowing your child to have individualized materials and attention. I will begin by assessing your child's skills in phonemic awareness through sound placement within words and rhyming skills. We will practice areas of weakness in phonics and learn rules such as digraphs, dipthongs, and vowel teams. We will practice strategies to understand unknown words in context through context clues. We will utilize text features to increase comprehension of the reading. Using semantic mapping, we will continue to add to academic vocabulary schema. Through repeated readings, students will build fluency through accuracy and rate. Comprehension strategies such as SQ3R, story mapping, and summarizing will be practiced. Students will be met at their point of need to improve the overall reading experience and build a love for reading in students.
