US Grade 3 - 4
Welcome to Rockin' Writers! In this class, we will work through Common Core writing standards. Most classes will have a direct instruction mini lesson, student work time, and sharing out of student work. Students will be encouraged to contribute to class conversations and work in partners frequently to practice peer editing skills. We believe in creating a classroom community where all students feel valued and safe to make mistakes and celebrate each other's successes. Our teaching style is "I do, we do, you do." Through this method, we will guide student learning to meet each learner where they are at and differentiate their learning. Students will be writing in every class ultimately creating longer writing pieces and presenting them to our class utilizing creative publishing options. Students should come to class prepared with their materials (including previous writing work) and ready to learn in an environment with limited distractions around them. This class is a combo class of 3rd and 4th grade so we will alternate writing projects between 3rd and 4th grade projects with adaptations made accordingly to ensure all learners are being appropriately challenged in each project. Below is a sample schedule for our course. I will adapt this schedule to fit the needs of individual learners. Week 1: Welcome to writing! Preassessment Week 2: Introduce personal narratives Examine the parts of personal narrative and model texts Brainstorm ideas for personal narratives Week 3: Prewriting & Planning Adding details Beginning rough drafts Week 4: Finish rough drafts and add details Editing and revisions Week 5: Publish and share personal narratives Introduce explanatory writing Week 6: Brainstorming and preplanning writing Begin rough draft Week 7: Finish rough drafts focusing on transitions Edit/revise drafts Week 8: Final Drafts Publish and Share

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,
My name is Amy Sneath and I am the creator of Moxie Learning. Our company of teachers aim to provide a world class education without the limits of physical location. We form true classroom communities that rival those of traditional school. Friendships and true connection alongside academic excellence are regular occurrences at Moxie Learning.
When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom.
Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. Both of our teachers graduated college with honors and are life long learners themselves. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
