In this class we will read (and even sing) Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. I will have each page on a PowerPoint so that the children can easily see the pages. After we read we will explain what a noun is and what a verb is. We will then go page by page and play "I Spy" with nouns and verbs. When we find a noun we will draw it (so please have paper and crayons on hand). We will also draw Pete the Cat. I encourage the kids to sing with me when we get to the "chorus" of the book. I also do not mind if a child raises their hand if they do not understand something or if they need more time to draw. Children can finish drawing or coloring after the class is over.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about nouns and verbs. They will show their understand of nouns and verbs by playing I Spy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Laurie Evans. I am married to my elementary school crush, Lee. I have two children - my daughter, Meagan, is married and I have two granddogs, Minnie and Chewie. My son is a junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My husband and I are alumni of UAB and are huge Blazer fans!
I have an early childhood degree and have taught Kindergarten for many years. Ten years ago I went back to school at Florida State University and received my Library Media degree and finally got my dream job. I have been a librarian for eight years at a school that averages about 1,000 students in PreK-6th grade. My passion is getting the right book in a kid's hands and hearing how much they love it after being read. I truly believe that if you don't like to read then you just haven't found the right book.
The classes that I plan on teaching will always revolve around a book. I plan on offering classes that involve reading strategies, story elements, book talks and book studies, and coloring sheets and coloring bookmarks that go along with a book.
