1-2 hours per week. All students will be instructed to practice a specific song for a given week. All students will be encouraged to sit down with their instrument at least once a day for 10-15 minutes. Students will not be rigorously critiqued or graded, I am just hoping to see evidence of an effort to practice.Class Experience

Beginner Level
Hello! My name is Cole and I have been teaching music lessons for close to ten years now. My patient teaching style fosters a relaxed classroom atmosphere in which even the shyest student can feel comfortable expressing themself. Allowing some time for classroom banter is a priority of mine. This 4-week music camp will be structured with a "school-of-rock" style of format. Each week, we will learn a new summer-themed rock 'n roll song. During the live meeting, students will (one at a time) learn the parts for their specific instrument. Then, if time allows, I will ask all students to mute themselves as I lead them in the song, with hopes that they are able to jam along with me. Because I can only teach one instrument part at a time, I will make sure that every instrumentalist has something to do while they are waiting. I.E. keyboardists and guitarists will be given scale exercises that are pertinent to the song or drummers will be given a simple groove to practice while they wait. Depending on factors such as skill level and stylistic preference, I will pick 4 songs from this group: - "Wipeout!" by The Surfaris - "In The Sun" by Blondie - "Vacation" by The Go-Go's - "Feels Like Summer" by Childish Gambino - "Final Summer" by Cloud Nothings - "Summertime Blues" by Eddie Cochran - "Surfin' USA" by the Beach Boys - "Misirlou" by Dick Dale
Learning Goals
Students will not only be adding four new songs to their repertoire but also learning rock 'n roll history along the way. Because the list of songs spans the entire timeline of rock n roll music, there will be ample opportunity to discuss its evolution and impact on the music world and culture as a whole.
