Class Experience

Beginner Level

Welcome to Part 1 of the Roblox Noob to Pro Scripting Series! This course is all about the Luau scripting language used in Roblox games. This course is about the absolute basics of the Luau language that every Roblox developer should understand. 

This is the first course in a larger series designed to teach you how to script in Roblox Studio using Roblox Lua/Luau. Roblox Lua is the name of the computer language you will be learning in this course.  

Roblox Studio experience is strongly encouraged before starting this course. You should already know how to create and publish basic Roblox games BEFORE you take this course. 

If you're new to Roblox Studio, please get experience building a few simple games BEFORE you take this course. No coding experience is required for this course, but experience making your own roblox games is required. The more you know Roblox Studio, the easier it will be to learn to script. 

This course assumes you have zero coding/scripting experience in any language. If you have scripting experience, some of the lessons will be review for you and good practice. 

This is also a good course for students that have scripting experience, but need practice with the fundamentals of the language. 

This is a SCRIPTING COURSE. You will be typing information with your computer keyboard. This course is about learning how to code/script in Roblox Studio. This course is 100% about scripting. Other topics are not taught in this course.

Learning Goals

Understand the Basics of Luau Scripting – Learn the foundational concepts of the Luau language, including how to write simple scripts and modify game elements.

Navigate Roblox Studio’s Core Tools – Gain proficiency in using the Explorer, Output, and Properties panels to manage and debug your game objects.

Unit 1: Unit 1

Lesson 1:

Introduction

 This lesson provides an overview of the course and what you will learn. It will also explain about the experience required for this course. 

This course is NOT about making an entire game. 
This course is about learning the basics of the Luau programming language. 

I assume you already have experience making games BEFORE you start this course.

Lesson 2:

Roblox Studio Interface

 This lesson explains some of the features in Roblox Studio. This course focuses on scripting, so the lesson is about the most common features used when learning how to script.

Lesson 3:

The Explorer

 The Explorer helps you navigate and organize your game’s objects and instances. You can select and modify objects directly from the Explorer. This tool is essential for keeping your game organized while scripting.

Lesson 4:

The Properties Section

 Properties are attributes that define an object’s behavior or appearance, like size or color. Each object/instance has preset properties you can modify, both in the Properties panel and with code.

Parental Guidance

Parental Guidance is advised for students under 13 when accessing the internet and when downloading and installing programs such as Roblox Studio. Roblox Studio is a free program that should only be downloaded from the official Roblox site. www.roblox.com/create. Roblox Studio requires a Roblox account. Roblox Studio requires an internet connection. Roblox Studio cannot be used offline/without internet. This is NOT a video game class. Roblox games are not played in this class. Roblox usernames/handles are not shared in this course.

Pre-Requisites

Experience using a Windows or Mac computer is required. This class is intended for experienced Roblox Studio users that want to learn how to code. I assume you already have experience making your own games before starting this course.
