In this fun ongoing class we will join the characters from Roald Dahl's classic books on an adventure that will be different every week. This class is best for learners who are familiar with some of Roald Dahl's books, but it can also be a great introduction to the author. I hope that this course inspires your learners to keep reading. I recommend that children read the books before class, but there is no required reading. In this class we are using themes from the famous stories. There may be some "spoilers" for children who haven't read the books yet. *Dates are listed by week Mar 27 - The Witches We will use adjectives and similes to describe REAL witches. We will also discuss how to take sensible precautions with strangers we meet in person and online. April 3 - The Witches We will create out of PSA to warn others of the dangers of REAL witches in our neighborhoods. April 10 - The Witches We will use a thesaurus to find synonyms for our description and do an art project in class. (List of art supplies sent prior to class) April 17 - The Witches We will learn to write our own poem or spell using rhyming couplets. April 24 - The Witches We will solve the witches problems using math problems. May 1 - The Witches We will celebrate close relationships and a special person who we can trust like the boy trusts his grandmother. May 8 - Matilda In this lesson students will use persuasive language to debate and decide what book Matilda should read next. May 29 - Matilda For this lesson we will follow Lavender's example and explore the great outdoors. We will discuss animal habitats and food. June 5 - Matilda We will analyse the characters and identify ways to overcome challenges. We will complete writing and art assignment focusing on the student's personal goals. June 12 - Matilda ** This lesson requires extra materials. Please see the classroom post with the list of common household materials. ** This lesson will have a STEM focus, identifying and describing the main types of force, i.e. gravity, magnetic etc. We will conduct experiments and write up our findings. More lessons to be added later. We will continue with Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach, The Twits, The BFG, and George's Marvellous Medicine.
