This is an 8 week class designed for beginning violin students who have learned beginning violin technique. Students should already know the parts of the violin, how to properly hold the instrument, the appropriate methods for producing sounds/pitches, notes/fingerings, and how to play some beginning level songs. In this lesson group, students will learn notes and songs on the D and G strings, two new bowing techniques, and music notation (staff and its parts). Students are expected to have a sized violin on their very first lesson day. Students will be taught using resources from the Essential Elements for Strings Violin Book 1 and Suzuki Violin Book 1. This will help students with individual practice and learning notation and violin fingerings. Students will focus mostly on foundational technique and learning a few beginning songs. Week 1: Reviewing Parts of Violin, Playing Position, Bow hold, and Notes on the A and E String Week 2: Review of A and E string songs. Week 3: Notation and Reading A and E string notes on the staff. Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello!
I'm Ms. Lexi and I teach of a variety of Instrumental Music classes (winds and strings!) and Pre-K general music.
My first taste of teaching comes from my experience as a Teaching Artist with the BSO's Orchkids Program working with students in schools that rarely offered general or instrumental music programs. It was a gift to meet so many bright, talented, and eager students. For the last several years, I have worked with several elementary and middle schools in the public school system. I have taught beginner and intermediate students to play a variety of band and string instruments.
I believe that every student can learn to love music and play an instrument! It is all about finding the right instrument for the student, discovering the music they love, and reinforcing the habits that work for each individual.
My favorite things to do outside of teaching and music are knitting socks, creek swimming with my mastiff and discovering a great new read at Barnes and Noble.
