Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Right Start Math is innovative hands-on math that allows the use of visual pictures to solve problems. It has a different approach but provides students with the foundation for everyday life, advanced math for science in our technological world. This curriculum provided many opportunities for review within the lesson to ensure students are learning and retaining the information. According to Dr. Joan Cotter's research, this curriculum will allow students to view numbers in a vital way to understand arithmetic procedures. In these lessons (42-77), there are 32 worksheets and lots of games and activities. This curriculum is great for active and kinesthetic learners. For more information about the curriculum go to https://rightstartmath.com/our-curriculum/the-rightstart-difference.
Class Breakdown
Classes will be held twice a week i.e. Monday’s and Wednesday’s. The class duration will be between 40mins and since it's hands-on, l may stay a little longer if need be. Students who are struggling may choose to work out a plan with me to help them improve.

Monday
Classes will start with a song or active warm-up activity. Students will be introduced to the key concepts for that week of lessons using a
variety of interactive activities and games. Some of the activities will require physical materials from RightStart Math kit or from their home and other activities will make use of web-based interactive manipulatives. Most of the time the last 5-10 minutes of class the students will play a game together!
Homework (activities or worksheets from the curriculum) will be assigned for the week and I will reach out to individual families if a child needs to focus on a particular aspect more closely.

Wednesday
The class will again start with a song or movement-based activity. I will review content that students struggled with on Monday as well as feedback from families during the week and cover any additional topics that are needed. The class will end with a math game.
I reserve the right to modify the class structure and pace to meet the needs of the students and I will reach out and talk with each parent altering the pace of the class.
Classroom rules:
1. Respect everyone and everything, with your words, and actions.
2. Come prepared with items needed for class. (List will be sent Sunday).
3. I need to see the student's face.
4. Students should keep themselves muted unless they are speaking.
5. Students must have their own copies of the curriculum.

For me, Outschool requires a weekly breakdown of each topic. They prefer a daily breakdown but we need flexibility.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Mrs. Opeyemi Olanipekun (though my friends love to call me Mrs opi). I am passionate about teaching having been raised by a teacher. I am super excited to meet your child. I love teaching preschoolers and elementary students. My best subject is mathematics though. I have Masters Degree in Educational Studies and l have over 20years of experience in teaching. I am presently in the process of obtaining my MAT in Early Childhood Education. I believe learning should be fun, so all my classes are interactive and fun. I teach children from different countries online as well. I am looking forward to having fun with your children.
