Class Experience

In this course, we will work on learning to recognize quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes and eight notes! We will use our hands and body percussion to keep time and to practice these different rhythms. The class is structrued so that, in the 45 minutes, we continue to build on what we have learned. By the end of class, we will use flash cards and youtube videos to test what we have learned. I very much so believe in having as much fun as we can while still learning. I also believe that mistakes are totally fine, as long as learners are doing their very best to acheive our goals. Learners will get to interact with me and each other throughout the entire lesson. As this is a beginner class, no prior experience is needed!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Renee Michelle Cannon and I love to teach music! I have been involved in music since I was very young, beginning on the piano at the age of 4. I played the piano up until 7th grade, where I learned to play the clarinet and, a year after that, my Middle School band director led her to the oboe, which became her primary instrument. When I reached College, I joined the Lincoln University Orange Crush Roaring Lions Marching Band, where I became the Baritone Horn section leader. I also joined Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority Inc. in my last year of school. Currently, I hold a Masters in Elementary Education with an intent to pursue a certificate in Theory, Harmony and Ear Training.

It has been a dream of mine to teach the performing arts, especially Music. I am currently working on opening a performing arts studio, Creativity Works, to help bring the arts to everyone who would want to sing, dance, play instruments or act. I believe that when kids are involved in the arts, there is an obvious improvement in academics and social skills. I wanted to start a performing arts studio in order to bring the arts to youth who do not have the ability to access it and provide a safe and comfortable environment for children to be curious and express themselves. My goal is to do that here on Outschool as well!

As we say in one of the programs I teach at Disneyland, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things because we are curious - and curiousity keeps leading us down new paths." (Walt Disney)
