Class Experience

Someone once said: “It happens to every writer. It’s inevitable. Your prose has turned to mush, you don’t have a creative bone left in your body, and you want to throw in the towel ... Every writer struggles with it. But what you do with it is what really matters.

This popular interactive class is for both aspiring writers and those who have some experience, who want to bring their words, stories and experiences to the printed page. In it your student will learn how to:

	Remove the fear that often comes up around writing
	Let go of past “failures” and view them instead as opportunities
	Overcome procrastination, perfectionism, and the pressure to “do it again” (if they’ve already written a great/received a good grade on an article, booklet/book, etc.)
	Embrace the process of writing
	Create an inspiring workspace
	Set an intention for writing

The format of the class is as follows*:
1.	Each student will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, and share why they are taking this class and what they are currently working on (if applicable)
2.	Discussion of roadblocks that often come up around writing
3.	Learning several easy ways to embrace the writing process that can be put into practice every day
4.	Discussion of how to create a more creative writing environment, regardless of the amount of space they may have
5.	A short guided meditation for setting an intention prior to a writing exercise
6.	Time to write a short story, poem, or article
7.	Interactive Feedback: Each student will have an opportunity to read what they wrote and receive feedback from the other students. This helps the students understand that the writing process and genres are different for everyone, provides real world examples of others who may still be experiencing some writing road blocks, and creates creative conversation
8.	Q&A: The students will have an opportunity to ask me/share any other questions or concerns they may have.
9.	The students (parent) will be provided with a follow-up handout of everything discussed for use at home.

* Please note that slides will be used to better engage the students and demonstrate the principles discussed.

It’s Never Too Late to REWRITE Your Childhood Stories
When it comes to our childhood, whether we say it was “good” or perhaps “bad,” the interpretations we made about the events and situations during that time have a profound effect and play an integral role in how we navigate through life as we grow older. As such, the subconscious beliefs through which we filter all of our life experiences sometimes operate us from the shadows, instead of us operating them.

Students will learn how to:
	Tap into their childhood to uncover the core issues of the triggers that keep sabotaging you
	Acknowledge, listen to, and support their younger self from the position of their older, wiser self
	More closely examine their old childhood stories in order to separate “fact from fiction”
	Step out into the world in a greater way that supports living an authentic life filled with passion and purpose

Become Friends with your Fear Lizard: The Gateway to Freedom
We all have a fear lizard. It’s a little creature that hops up onto our shoulders and starts feeding us a bunch of lies; lawlessly running around in its misguided attempts to keep us safe. But our fear lizard can also be a very valuable tool by teaching it to change from giving us negative input, to positive input. The habit of a new story is what we need to feed it.

Students will learn how to:
	Identify the root cause of their fear
	Reframe their old fear stories
	Become friends with their fear lizard
	Use fear as a powerful, positive tool
