In this one time class, we will read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert, and we will paint our hands to make a handprint leaf craft!

Class experience

Students will explore leaves through the life cycle of a maple leaf.
Students will make their own "leaf" and draw veins on their leaf or leaves.
Students will learn about the parts of a book.
Students will practice pre-reading skills such as reading from left to right and top to bottom.
Students will understand words represent a spoken word and convey a message.
Students will answer simple questions about the story.
Students will describe elements in a story, for example, characters and/or setting (time, place, and/or environment).

paint (red, yellow, orange, and/or green) paintbrush brown marker (to draw veins on your leaf) light colored paper (construction paper or cardstock) colored construction paper (optional - can use for a background) hole punch and string (optional - can use a whole punch and string to hang up in a window)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parental guidance is strongly encouraged for painting.  Parental guidance for scissors as well (optional).
