Class Experience

Students will learn the basics of recorder playing using the book Song Book 1. Students will learn how to play B, A, G on the recorder and will play pieces using quarter notes, half notes, whole notes and eighth notes. They will learn how to practice using clapping the rhythm and saying the note names before playing it on the recorder.
Week 1 - Students are introduced to B, A, G and the following rhythms: quarter notes, quarter rest, half rest, half note and whole note. Pages 4 - 9
Week 2 - Expand your pieces using B, A and G. We add dotted half notes to our rhythms. No. 10 - Dressing Up - We change rhythms in the piece to make it more complicated - p. 10 - 13
Week 3 - Pieces use eighth notes and half rests. Learn Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb (p. 16). Students are encouraged to use the backing tracks listed on p. 3 to help them learn the pieces.
Week 4 - Review the book and conclude the lesson by learning the pieces on p. 17 and 18.

PLEASE NOTE: Students will be asked to learn one piece per week and if they want an optional piece will also be offered. Students may go through this class at their own pace - the slower pace class is one piece per week or longer if they want to; the faster pace student will have a goal to learn the whole book. Students can let me know after the first class which "track" they would like to do in this class. My goal is that student learns a way that is best for them.
Learning Goals
