Description

Class Experience

Help!  I found a pirate ship and climbed aboard to find treasure... but it's not abandoned like I thought and now I'm trapped inside!  Can you help me escape before the pirates find me?

In this 25 minute lesson, learners will solve puzzles, look for clues and separate fact from fiction as we learn all about real life pirates. We’ll answer the questions:
- What did it mean to "sail the 7 seas?"
- How did the Jolly Roger become the flag of pirates?
- How did pirate ships communicate before...

Students will gain a basic understanding of the world of pirates, nautical communication and geography in the 19th century and historical figures who inspire popular pirate fiction today.

One optional challenge will be given to students at the end of the class, with a bonus prize for completion.

A notebook and pen
(Optional: 2 tissues/kleenex)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
