Homework
I will provide a few sheets of paper to print out for each lesson that your child can have in front of them as we learn. These papers will match what they see on the screen so that they can easily follow along with the letters/words we are practicing. You can also use these worksheets to continue to practice our games and strategies after your child watches the lesson, until they feel they have mastered the content and are ready to move on to the next lesson. At the end of each lesson, I will specify what pages/strategies would be best to go over again before starting the next lesson, so some "grown-up" assistance will be required if you would like to practice and master content before moving on.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Beginner Level
Hi young reader families!

My name is Ms. Rebekah and I would love to help your kiddo learn to read!

In this 10 lesson, self-paced class, your kiddo will learn or refresh their letters and letter sounds, as well as learn how to blend letters together to create words and ultimately read short stories! By the 5th lesson your student will be blending 3-letter sounds/words, and by the end of the class will be reading multi-sentence short stories consisting of CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words. Whether your child knows all of their letters and letter sounds, or hasn't started practicing them yet, they will be able to benefit from this course!

I love that this is a self-paced class because your learner can take as much time as he/she needs between lessons while they practice our strategies, OR they can move along quickly if they feel they have already learned the content. You will have the capability to watch the lessons as many times as your learner needs before moving on to the next lesson.

I will provide the PDF version of our lessons so that you can print them out if you would like. These papers will match what the student sees on the screen so that they can easily follow along with the letters/words we are practicing.

Because the goal of this class is to learn letters, letter sounds, blending, and reading short stories, I will only use lower-case letters in this course. This will allow continuity, making sure the letters always look the same across the entire course, as opposed to switching back and forth between capital and lower case letters, which can often confuse young learners. Once your student has mastered all of their lower case letters and letter sounds, it will be much easier for them to then begin incorporating upper-case letters as well.

In this class, I will be visible through webcam the whole time, and will also have interactive screens containing the content we will use to learn and play games. Each video is around 15-20 minutes long, and I will be available to assist you or answer questions if you have them! I always aim to reply within 24 hours, but usually it will be much sooner than that. I would describe my teaching style as light and fun while also packing in a lot of content!

I have had the pleasure of teaching all 3 of my children to read, and am proud to say that all of them left Kindergarten reading on a 2nd to 3rd grade reading level. While I believe that learning to sound out words is a big part of learning to read, there are specific strategies that will help the child smoothly transition the letters they see on paper into words in their mind before speaking them out loud. Some of the games we play may seem strange at first, but they are all part of the process in preparing them to use those strategies as they read in later lessons! I can't wait to help your kiddo grow!
