We will learn through movement, songs, and hands-on activities! In this 4 week course, we will be learning and practicing skills in Reading, Writing, and Math. We will meet for 30 minutes 3 days a week. Mondays: Reading - 1st-grade sight words - Read simple phonics stories with short and long vowels - Show an understanding of the lesson in a story by asking and answering questions about it (who, what, where, when, why, and how) - Compare and contrast elements of different stories, including characters, settings, and major events - Explain how texts that tell stories are different from texts that provide information Tuesday: Math - Add and subtract numbers up to 20 (like 10 + 10 or 20 ‒ 10) - Understand basic rules of addition and subtraction (like 6 + 2 is the same as 2 + 6) - Solve word problems and problems with one- and two-digit numbers up to 20 - Understand the meaning of the “tens” and “ones” places in two-digit numbers and learn to compare two-digit numbers using > (more than) and < (less than) - Recognize that the equal sign means both sides of the equation have the same value and know whether an equation is false (like 3 + 4 = 9) - Read a clock and be able to tell the time to the nearest hour Wednesday: Writing - Write independently about a single topic with a focus on narrative and informative writing - Know sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark - Know proper subject-verb agreement (ex: Correct = James is a mailman. Incorrect= James are a mailman.) Join us in fun, engaging and interactive activities that will help get your child ready for 2nd grade.

Supply List
For each class students will need: paper pencil & eraser crayons, colored pencils, or markers index cards - optional for sight words to use as flashcards at home worksheet/activities will be sent in a PDF format at least 24 hours prior to class

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! My name is Brigitta Voss. I have a passion for kids, teaching, and living a healthy life. I have a degree in Child & Adolescent Development, a teaching credential for elementary education, as well as TESOL and TEFL certifications. I have been an educator for 20 years in many capacities. From school classrooms, online classrooms, and to the outdoors, I have enjoyed inspiring and teaching students of all ages. I would like to help your child become a lifelong learner by creating fun and engaging classes. It is important for me to create a classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks and participating. This will help each and every student make progress and reach their own goals.
I am also a wife, mother of 2, athlete, and coach. In my free time, I love cooking healthy meals, camping, hiking, and mountain biking.
I am so excited to be a part of your child's learning. Our classes will be full of energy, movement, and learning. I look forward to meeting your student in class!
