***Please, please message me if you don't see a day/time that works for you! I am available more than what this schedule shows! =) Let me help build your child's confidence toward becoming an independent reader by being his/her online reading tutor! #confidence Learning to read can be one of the best things for a child or it can be one of the most frustrating. Let me help build your child's confidence in reading by teaching him/her the skills it takes to decode words and to put that knowledge into context for them to become an independent reader! Class Schedule 1. Begin with an Ice Breaker/Silly Questions and Sharing! 2. New Sight Words (Reading, Spelling, Missing, Mix and Fix, Writing). 3. Word Work- Hearing Sounds, Playing with Sounds, Syllables, Segmenting, Blending. 4. Reading- Intro of new book! Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension 5. Writing Sentences- Review Spelling of Sight Words, Stretch Words/Hear Sounds/Phonetic Spelling, Sentence Structure. 6. End with a Game! While reading with me your child will have the chance to practice hearing sounds, reading words, spelling words, learn important parts to words, strategies to break apart large words, spelling rules, grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. All of these skills are the prerequisites to becoming an independent reader! I will focus on teaching decoding strategies and phonics to your child. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham which is a multi-sensory approach to phonics. In other words, I will teach your child how to notice important parts in words and how do break apart (decode) multisyllabic words. This approach is researched based and data driven. It is most commonly used with students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, but has been proven beneficial for many readers reading below grade level. I am a calm and engaging teacher with patience and compassion. I myself struggled to learn how to read, so I understand the importance of a strong foundation especially in the early years. Teaching children how to read is now my absolute favorite subject to read! My schedule is somewhat flexible. Please, PLEASE reach out to me if you would like to request a different day and time. I look forward to meeting you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over 12+ years experience in the classroom from preschool to first grade. Teaching reading is my absolute most favorite subject to teach! I struggled to learn how to read and I don't necessarily love it as a past-time as an adult. But I truly believe in the importance of early intervention and building that foundation early on to help build a child's confidence and self esteem!
I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham International approach to teach reading. This method is a multi sensory - visual/auditory/kinesthetic/tactile approach that has been found to be beneficial to students identified with dyslexia. OG is structured, sequential, cumulative and repetitive. It has been described as a vehicle for integrating thinking skills, vocabulary development, writing skills, and content subjects. OG makes the connection between reading, spelling, writing, and oral language.
