Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
Graphic novels can be used as an educational tool to introduce academic literature elements in a non-threatening, entertaining environment. This class will introduce students to an ancient genre that has had a profound effect and worldly influence on culture, art, and literature on a global scale: Greek Mythology. The foundation of Greek mythology is the drama of the mythical Greek gods and goddesses.
This class is a continuation of Reading Camp With Graphic Novels: The Olympians Part 1. Students will read and learn about five additional gods and goddesses that are a part of the 12 Olympians, the major deities of Mount Olympus. The class will read and discuss the graphic novels by George O'Connor. Each day, we will discuss a different god or goddess. Lecture and discussion will be used to discover the world surrounding Greek mythology.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Greetings! My name is Vikki Harris . For the past 14 years, I have been working as a substitute teacher for a New York school district. I have had the pleasure of working with different types of students (Special Needs, ESL/ELL, Support Services, 1:1) with different learning styles and abilities. Also, I work with all grade levels, K-12. My focus has always been English. The majority of my assignments have been teaching English classes at the high school and middle school but I enjoy working with the younger students as well, helping them to build a strong English foundation.

I live by the strong belief that "Everyone has the right to a sound education."

Remember back when you had a substitute teacher in your classroom. Well, some things never change!
