Class Experience

Reading comprehension is the key to learning in all subjects. In this class, students will learn how to use a variety of reading strategies to improve their reading comprehension all in a fun and supportive environment. Students will learn the SPREADSS model for reading success. We will read a short passage together in class and I will model the use of the SPREADSS graphic organizer that students can easily recreate for themselves any time they are reading to aid their comprehension skills. Once the students practice this skill repeatedly they will know what to look for on their own and what questions to ask themselves when reading. Eventually the student will move beyond the use of the graphic organizer and will automatically practice these skills. I have used this model through the years with much success and I have seen improvement not only in my students' reading comprehension test scores but also in their love of reading!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile! I love learning and I love to inspire kids to get excited about learning! I have a degree in Psychology and I am certified to teach both English and English as a Second Language. I have been teaching for fifteen years. I taught middle school English, Reading, and Creative Writing in the public school system for eight years, and I have been homeschooling my two daughters for eight years. I have been teaching online for four years and I love it! My writing has been featured in Seeing the Everyday magazine.

I strive to make my classroom an inviting, safe, and happy place where all learners can grow. My goal is to offer a well-rounded Language Arts program taught in a fun and encouraging environment. I teach a variety of classes focusing on reading comprehension, writing, poetry, and oral language skills. I also offer one on one tutoring as well. I have something to meet the needs of all types of learners! I even have life skills classes and some fun pet classes where we learn how to care for bunnies, cats, gerbils, and hamsters! I can’t wait to meet your child!

When I am not teaching, I love to read, write, research best practices of teaching, crochet, play board games with my family, and take family vacations to learn more about nature, science, and history. You can often find me reading a book on time management or how to organize and clean your home more effectively! I love learning! Let's learn and have fun together!
