Class Experience

Early readers are able to use strategies to decode, predict, and use pictures while reading. They will use visual cues and language patters to be able to read. The students will learn how to discuss the story and use strategies to become better readers. We will learn by reading and discussing leveled readers.

Homework: The students will practice the leveled readers we read in class.

Background knowledge: Students should already know all of the letter sounds of the alphabet. They should know decoding strategies and sight words. Examples of sight words the student need to know - I, a, said, you, she, he, is, am, on, in. I teach a variety of classes that cover this background knowledge. If you are not sure where your child is in their reading journey, please contact me to know what class they should start with.

I will evaluate their progress by having them read during class.

Hello! My name is Kellie. I have over 15 years of experience teaching students in a variety of settings.
I have continued to expand my teaching experience and explore new areas of interest. I have taught students of various ages and backgrounds, both in traditional classroom settings and online platforms.

I strive to create engaging and interactive lessons that cater to each student's unique learning style, fostering their confidence and love for learning.

In terms of my qualifications, I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood and a Reading Endorsement. My passion lies in teaching foundational skills, particularly in reading. I firmly believe that every student has the potential to learn, but it's important to recognize and accommodate their individual learning needs and pace. In my classes, I provide multiple approaches to learning a concept, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to grasp it in a way that resonates with them.

Beyond my teaching experience, I have a diverse background in agriculture and farming. My husband and I are actively involved in raising quarter horses for working cow horse competitions. I find joy in merging my love for agriculture with my teaching endeavors, incorporating elements of farm life and nature into my lessons. It's a unique way to engage students and broaden their understanding of the world around them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I'm excited to connect with more learners and families, and I look forward to the opportunity to inspire a love for learning in your child.
