Week 1Lesson 1Letter Sound & Printing ReviewIn this lesson we will review all individual letter sounds, play a letter sound memory game, build words with Bananagrams, and print the letters to match corresponding pictures.Lesson 2Introduction to Blending & SegmentingIn this lesson I will introduce Spelfabet mnemonic letter cards to help solidify letter sound knowledge and to introduce how we can blend together 2-3 sounds. We will use Bananagrams to build/write words and work on an auditory drill to practice the segmenting words into individual sounds.Lesson 3Practice with Blending & SegmentingIn this lesson we will review the "tricky" letter sounds (as identified in the first two lessons), review blending 2-3 sounds with Spelfabet cards, play a sound sorting game with pictures and introduce elkonin boxes for spelling words.Lesson 4High Frequency Decodable WordsIn this lesson we will practice reading high frequency 2-3 letter words using the blending skills we have practiced in previous lessons and play a memory game. We will review segmenting with an auditory drill and demonstrate how you can use fidget poppers to segment words into sounds.Lesson 5Decodable PhrasesIn this lesson we will put together everything we have done so far, review decoding and segmenting strategies, reading and spelling high frequency words as well as putting together 2-3 decodable words to build and read simple phrases.
The goals of this class will be for students to be successful in reading 2-4 letter words by blending letter sounds, as well as to successfully segment and identify the individual letter sounds in a word in preparation for spelling.
