In what ways have women’s rights evolved over time? Why is it important to study women’s history? What does it take to change long-held ideas and beliefs? What shapes society’s ideas about gender roles? Each class will begin with a new story that we will read and discuss together, stopping to ask questions throughout. At the end of the story there will always be a writing activity for the students to take part in. A variety of stories are selected from Scholastic Scope magazines about trailblazers. Students will learn about some of these brave women and how they have overcome huge obstacles to achieve great things. Throughout this program, students will learn about these incredible women that are trailblazers. They will also develop strategies that are necessary to help them better understand what they are reading. They will engage in various activities that are aimed at improving reading fluency, expanding vocabulary, and focusing on some key skills such as details, text evidence and key ideas. Strong reading comprehension skills are essential for doing well in school. This class is specifically designed for students who may need help catching up, staying on track, or even pushing ahead in their reading abilities and understanding. Small group instruction is emphasized as it not only aids academic growth but is also a cost-effective alternative to one-on-one tutoring. Working in a group setting reduces individual stress and promotes learning from peers. The material provided is at a grade 7-8 grade reading level. This is an ongoing class and students can come and go as needed. Get $10 off my classes with coupon code ROSEBK90C510 until Dec 14, 2024.
